SCA and partners arranged an amazing Southall Resists art exhibition at Villiers High School on Tuesday 23rd April. This was the 45th anniversary of the death of Blair Peach and hundreds of Southall school children came and enjoyed the art exhibits prepared by other school children.
For over one year we have been working with Suresh Grover from The Monitoring Group and visiting local schools to talk about Southall’s history of resisting racism from the 1970s onwards.
we were superbly supported by our artist colleague Mahenderpal Sorya and welcomed at many Southall primary and high schools.
The art exhibition focused upon the deaths of Blair Peach and Gurdip Singh Chaggar but many children also looked at Southall and its communities.
The exhibition was opened by Chris Richards, headteacher at Villiers and Councillor Mohinder Midha, on behalf of the Mayor of Ealing.
The day was inspiring, energising and an important reminder about remaining vigilant against intolerance and racism.
This project is funded by John Lyons Charity.
