Southall Connect
Funded by Ealing Council, Southall Connect is four-year long project led by Southall Community Alliance and co-produced by 12 different community groups and charities forming a consortium.
Each partners is responsible for different activities and community engagement work that builds community connections and cohesion across Southall. The aim of this project is to tackle the problem of isolation, increase health and well-being of residents, organise monthly community forums where residents and local politicians can discuss local issues, and promote anti-racist history through community quizzes and art.

Ongoing Projects
Human Rights Outreach and Protection Endeavour
Southall Community Alliance received a total grant of £243,885 for a four-year project by The Baring Foundation. Through this project, SCA aims to raise awareness among SCA staff and trustees, voluntary sector workers, and Southall residents about human rights issues and empower them to advocate for their rights. SCA will lead a human rights coalition in Southall by partnering with organisations already working on addressing various human rights issues including gender-based violence, modern slavery, and racism. Through workshops, training sessions, and community events, this project will enhance understanding of human rights and provide information on available legal support for addressing human rights violations.

Ongoing Projects
Young Voices
The Young Voices project, funded by John Lyon’s Charity, aims to engage young people each year in exploring the rich local history of Southall and its impact on contemporary society. Through workshops, school visits, history walks, and art activities, participants will develop a deeper understanding of their community’s heritage. The project collaborates with The Monitoring Group to work directly with schools and young people, fostering a sense of identity and belonging while empowering youth to actively participate in their community’s narrative. This initiative is vital for building informed, engaged future leaders in Southall.

Ongoing Projects
Caretakers Cottage
The Caretakers Cottage project, supported by John Lyon’s Charity, addresses the pressing need for mental health support among children aged 5-12 in Southall. Recognising that early intervention is crucial for mental well-being, this initiative will provide outreach services and connect families with vital resources. Mental health challenges in young children can impact their development, learning, and relationships, making this support essential. Operating from a facility owned by Dormers Wells High School, the project will employ a part-time worker to facilitate activities, creating a safe and supportive environment for children and their families.

Ongoing Projects
London Borough of Ealing - Health Determinants Research Collaborations
The LBE – HDRC project is a five-year initiative aimed at building community research skills and capacity within Ealing. This collaborative effort involves the local council, academic research partners, and three voluntary sector organisations. By equipping residents with research skills, the project seeks to empower the community to actively participate in local decision-making processes. Additionally, Southall Community Alliance (SCA) is commissioned to recruit community researchers from across Ealing further enhancing community engagement and involvement. The project allows recipient organisations to allocate resources flexibly to meet project goals.

Ongoing Projects
People’s Health Trust
The People’s Health Trust project focuses on organising arts and craft activities in Southall to foster community engagement and encourage the development of new creative skills. This initiative aims to bring residents together, promoting social cohesion and a sense of belonging. Operating without delivery partners, the project ensures a direct connection between the initiative and the local community. Through these activities, participants will enhance their creativity while strengthening community bonds.

Ongoing Projects
Heathrow Community Trust
The project at Western Road Urban Garden aims to create a sustainable environmental learning hub dedicated to supporting migrant communities in understanding and improving their local environment. This initiative addresses the critical need for environmental education, particularly in areas where communities may lack access to resources and knowledge about sustainability practices. By enhancing site access and providing engaging educational activities, the project empowers residents to actively participate in environmental protection, fostering a culture of sustainability while building community resilience and cohesion.

Ongoing Projects
Plant To Plate
The Plant to Plate project funded by Imperial Charity engages users from various women’s organisations in Southall, bringing them to the Urban Garden to learn about growing food and healthy cooking practices. This initiative is essential for promoting nutrition, sustainability, and community cohesion among participants. By collaborating with partners such as GOSAD, Voice of Women, Mahila Sabha, and Southall Day Centre, the project not only enhances participants’ culinary skills but also fosters connections among diverse community members, empowering them to take charge of their health and well-being.

Ongoing Projects
City Bridge Trust – Anchor Fund Project
The City Bridge Trust’s Anchor Fund is an eight-year capacity-building initiative designed to enhance support for local groups. The project focuses on improving knowledge sharing, building organisational capacity, and engaging in policy campaigning. The project helps us in covering our operational costs, ensuring our organisation can maintain essential functions, invest in growth, and sustain its long-term impact on the community. By effectively managing these costs, we can remain responsive to community needs and ensure ongoing support for local initiatives.

Ongoing Projects
Stronger Voices
The Stronger Voices project is a three-year initiative funded by Trust for London. The project aims at building the capacity of Southall’s community organisations to campaign to save community spaces from being sold. It also focuses on enhancing economic competence of community organisations, developing leadership skills of future leaders, and strengthening advocacy for community asset management. Stronger Voices enables us to empower local communities, influence policy, and drive long-term, sustainable change in Southall. We have partnered with The Monitoring Group and Samafal Community Association to deliver this project.

Ongoing Projects
Community Action Southall
The Community Action Southall (CAS) project, supported by a three-year grant from City Bridge Trust, is dedicated to delivering anti-poverty capacity-building initiatives in Southall from 2021 to 2024. Our goal is to strengthen BME community groups, helping them become more resilient and effective in supporting Southall’s poorest and most vulnerable residents. Through an anti-poverty coalition, SCA will assist over 30 local groups and reach a minimum of 500 poverty-affected residents annually.
