Southall Community Alliance

Southall Community Alliance (SCA) was established as an independent charitable organisation in 2000 to work with residents and community groups in the Southall area. We have a long history of responding to the needs of local voluntary sector organisations and currently run a Community Resource Centre, which provides support services to many local groups. SCA is committed to strengthening and empowering the groups that we work with to play a fuller role in our community.

Voice of Women and International Women’s Day - 8/3/25

The ladies from Voice of Women arranged another fantastic IWD event on 8th March at the VHK Temple on Lady Margaret Road. There was a great turnout and as well as a sumptuous lunch, the event had a number of high profile speakers including Cllr Jasbir Anand, Deirdre Costigan MP and Seema Malhotra MP.

Well done to Surinder Kenth and all the tireless volunteers at Voice of Women.

Walking paths at Urban Garden - 20/4/25

Ashok and Janpal worked today to improve the walking paths in our allotment area. The paths had become overgrown with grass and weeds and after a bit of Easter morning effort we cleaned them up so that children and families will have safe access to the space they will work in.

Save Ealing Children’s Centres ! - 17/4/25

SCA hosted a meeting today which brought together stakeholders who are very worried about plans to close children’s centres around Ealing. Children’s centres provide vital health and educational services for young children and families in some of the poorest wards of Ealing and the Council are proposing the closure of 12 centres.

If implemented the proposals will have a devastating impact upon early years support for vulnerable families. In Southall alone, the proposals will result in the closure of 4 out of 6 children centres.

SCA staff worked with partners to arrange the meeting which resulted in some practical steps to share the growing concerns about the planned closures.

Thanks to Niharika, Clara and Amelia from SCA for making all the arrangements and to the following stakeholders who attended:

Save Ealing Children’s Centre
Ealing Trade Council
National Education Union
Indian Workers Association (GB)
Ealing Matters

Special thanks to Laura Grace from Just Fair, who made an extra long journey to support the meeting in Southall.

Return to Western Road !

As the spring weather has arrived, we are also witnessing the return of our female volunteers who come to the urban garden every week . They will help in growing vegetable on their own plot and in helping with the general maintenance of the site.

The ladies enjoy the exercise, fresh air and anticipation of being able to grow food over the next few months.

Many thanks to Paul Carter for looking after the group and to Yousra Razak for bringing the ladies from GOSAD.

Southall Art Day -14/4/25

For the second consecutive year, we worked with students from the University of the ArtsLondon and helped them to arrange an outdoor Art Day in Southall. The students had visited different parts of Southall over a number of weeks and planned for an event as part of their studies.

On the day itself, they created some art installations and activities for children and families. It was lovely to see how our streets can be used to arrange activities that put a smile on the face of local residents.

Well done to the SCA team, Mahenderpal Sorya and the team of students - Maya, George, Eva, Bipana, Joseph and Yufan.

Clifton Primary and food support - 2/4/25

It has been a busy week for us with food deliveries and we visited Clifton Primary School on 2nd April. The school staff and particularly, Emma Coutts, were fantastically accommodating and we delivered household staples that are used widely in local cooking and have gone up greatly in price in recent years.

This all supports our drive to tackle food poverty in Southall and support families in high need. This work has been made possible by Ealing Council’s household support fund and helped hundreds of families in Southall.
